I decided to start this photoblog when I bought my first digicam in spring 2005, a Canon Powershot A510. Its purpose was to show my less worse photographs and help me progress as a photographer. Unfortunately, it seems I couldn't get along with this compact digicam as it turned out most of the pics I took with it were the worst.
I, in fact, have learned the basics of photography when I was a teen with an old, all manual Canon FTb ql SLR. Coming from my trusty ol'FTb, the compact tremendously lacked sharpness, showed a lot of purple fringing, had a HUGE depth of field (something I don't like), and was in great pain when it came to shooting scenes that have high contrast. Plus, I really couldn't get used to framing with the LCD screen - the tiny viewfinder being useless.
I quickly bought a Canon EOS 350D (Digital Rebel XT) with the kit EF-S II 18-55mm (f/3.5 - f/5.6) lens, which I was quite happy with.
May 2008 update : After a long break away from photography, I am now back into the game with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-LS60 compact digicam. It's the cheapest, most entry level camera that I've ever had and it's also the most satisfying one until now. I even sold the 350d, which I'd totally stopped using. The picture quality of the compact Panasonic is excellent and the inconvenience of not having a proper viewfinder is easily forgotten when you think of its size and weight compared to a dslr. Expostion correction is one button away too, unlike many other compact digicams.
